"There is no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one. "
- Jill Churchhill
This image has been on my mind for a while and it is only fitting that I post it now with Mother's Day only days away. I captured this exchange between this mom and daughter at an in-home session while I was in Charleston for a workshop. These two took my breath away. The light, the exchange, the dresses, and the simple of being in mid-gesture that to me is pure love.
Telling the story of parenthood is definitely one of my most favorite subjects to capture. Why? Because as cheesy as it sounds, there is no greater love than that of a child and a parent (or grandparent). The love is unconditional, selfless and honest. The love is raw and true. It is authentic. It is what makes my heart full and my camera happy.
And yes, I am not naive, and there is more to parenthood that isn't always roses or a beautiful mom and daughter in a picture perfect window. BUT as I tell my kids, it doesn't matter how angry or frustrated I am with them, I will always LOVE them. That is what it all comes back to.... Love.
Happy early Mother's Day to all you amazing mothers out there!
